Full of deep flavour, rosemary is one of the best and most widely used herbs in the garden. The perfect accompaniment to roast lamb, it can be added to stews, stuffings and marinades you can even use the branches as barbecue skewers to infuse even more flavour into your food! Easy to grow and winter hardy, Rosemary is the perfect garden shrub. Soft purple flowers appear each year in spring and early summer adding a splash of colour to your herb garden and attracting bees and butterflies.
These mature standard bushes are nothing like the small plants you’d see in the supermarkets and garden centres. With a total height of around a metre they’ll make a superb specimen plant for the patio and a pair is just the thing to frame a doorway meaning you’ll only need to open the door to gather tasty herbs for the kitchen.
Supplied as a standard tree in a 3L pot.
Care Information
Planting Advice:
- Grow in full sun in well-drained soil. Alternatively, can be grown successfully in a pot.
- Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds.
- Water your potted shrub well.
- Dig a hole a little deeper and 3 x wider than the nursery pot.
- Add a conditioner such as well rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.
- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots. Place your standard in the hole at the same level at the pot then refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling).
- Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball and water well.
- Mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc.
- If planting in a container, use the best compost that you can buy (our premium compost is ideal) and add some stones or gravel to the bottom of the pot to improve drainage and also to provide some ballast to stop the pot blowing over.
Aftercare Advice:
- Plants will need regular water when first planted until established. After that, they fairly maintenance free.
- Feed plants regularly during the growing season with a general-purpose feed such as our Blooming Fast soluble fertiliser.
- Cutting back after flowering to prevent plants becoming straggly and woody. Save the trimmings to propagate new plants or dry them for cooking.
